As an experienced writer myself, I know that submitting your work to an editor can feel like handing over a piece of your heart to a stranger. With this page, I hope to alleviate any of those anxieties you may have about my qualifications, who I am as a person, and my goals when we work together. Communication and honesty should flow freely between a writer and their editor, and I believe that starts here.
I graduated cum laude from the Ball State University Honors College in 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism, which included a concentration in magazine media and a minor in history. I was heavily involved in Ball State student media, most notably as The Ball State Daily News’ copy director for the Spring 2022 semester. I have written several columns and feature articles for The Daily News and Byte, which is Ball State’s student-run entertainment media. Along with being a writer, I was also a co-host of the Byte podcast, “Roll for Immersion.” The previously mentioned articles and podcast episodes can be found under the “Portfolio” tab on this website.
When I was a child, it was rare to find me without a book in my hand. I stuck closely to the fantasy and fiction genres, which is a preference that has followed me into adulthood. Over the years, my love for books revealed a love for storytelling. I cultivated that passion through writing short stories and fanfiction, as well as playing story-based role-playing games such as Dungeons & Dragons. Stories are, and have always been, a major part of my personal life. It was no surprise that they would transfer professionally. However instead of writing my own, I’ve decided to help other people tell theirs.
I believe being an editor is rewarding, because I know I am helping a writer become the best that they can be. Everyone brings their own voice and personal experience to their writing. It is my job to ensure that voice flows clearly and brightly, not to diminish it altogether. As your editor, I promise to work with you, not against you. I will read carefully, listen patiently, and keep an open line of communication for questions and feedback. Editing is not a competition to prove that you could do it better or point out a writer’s flaws. It is a chance for writers and editors to learn and grow, both as people and professionals.
If you choose to work with me as your editor, I guarantee your writing is in good hands. I look forward to the opportunity to grow together!
